Review from Ballinasloe.com
Featuring one of the Funniest 5 minute openings to a show in a long time and to divulge any more would spoil everything except that you would advise one and all to watch out when they see Heather Reynolds (Female Paramedic) with an iron!!!!!
The ensemble acting of Dave Hardiman as Edward Jones, and Tom Costello as Nugent has you rolling in the aisles along with everyone else - our protoganist Edwards was an ordinary man ding ordinary things until one day before his 40th birthday .......it happened and it came like a bolt from the blue. Declan Finn and Nigel Sammon's numerous appearances in different quises as Male Paramedic, Martin, a Tramp and Farmer, Fire chief and DJ Thompson prove the theatrical versatility of the duo . The omnipresent and loquaciously witting Mike O' Reilly conveys that sauve sense of sophistication as the Narrator which is complimented by Alma Cormican - Whyte as the Female Narrator. The relative newcomers to Relays presentations Breda Kerrins Manton as Mary and Siobhan Byrne as the Receptionist make excellent first impressions and give a degree of accuracy to the proceedings. Maria Griffin playing Sarah was truly convincing and proved her competence with a plomb to mix the serious with the comic . The towering presence of many a Relays or indeed Musical Cast - Brian Derrane showed off his incredible gardening/topiary skills with great panache as Dr. Rogers. Eveanna Ryan and Eoin Croffy and the Nurse and the Outside Reporter contribute movingly in the revelations of the busy and surprising plot. In fairness to the Direction of the Astute Liam Curley - as much as could be squeezed out of this face paced comedy was extracted from a very strong cast . . Set construction by Pat Mc Govern - was brilliant in its simplicity and his little surprises amazed the audience as usual. Mary Cuddy and her team as Asst. Stage Manager saw to it that effective set and prop changes occoured seamlessly. Lighting by Brendan Tully and Geoffrey Casey was sympathetic the actors and their script at all times. Noel Gavins and Eoin Croffy special effects are worth a mention as indeed were the costumes under Wardrobe Mistresses Karen Hurley and Jacinta Riddle. If the buzz from the preview audiences was anything to go by - this Thursday to Saturday night in the Town Hall Theatre is the place to be. Curtain up nightly at 8.30 p.m. - Bookings from 087 1224744. Miss it at your peril.
